3. Nature of Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapy is a complementary approach that supports health and wellbeing through personalised, evidence-informed dietary and lifestyle guidance. Consultations involve taking a detailed case history and health questionnaire, and developing a bespoke nutrition and lifestyle programme tailored to your individual circumstances, rather than a 'one size fits all' approach.
Nutritional therapy is designed to complement, not replace, conventional medical care. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease and should not be considered a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment from your GP or other qualified healthcare professional.
You should not stop, reduce or alter any prescribed medication without first consulting your doctor or prescribing healthcare professional.
If you have concerns about your health or experience a medical emergency, you should seek immediate medical attention. We do not provide emergency medical services — if you require urgent medical attention, please contact your GP, NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency.
Recommendations are based on the information you provide and are personal to you. They should not be shared with, or relied upon by, anyone else.
4. Limitations, Risks and Referrals
-
We do not diagnose medical conditions or claim to treat disease. Support provided is complementary in nature and focused on wellbeing, lifestyle and self-care.
-
We will always refer you to your GP or an appropriate medical professional if you present with signs or symptoms that fall outside the scope of safe complementary practice ('red flags'). We reserve the right to determine which cases fall outside our scope of practice.
-
No claim is made as to the efficacy of any programme. Individual responses vary, and there is always a possibility that a recommendation may be ineffective or, in rare cases, produce an adverse reaction.
-
With your consent, we may communicate with your GP or other healthcare professionals where this is considered beneficial to your care (see our GDPR Consent Form).
-
5. Booking Appointments
Appointments can be booked online through our secure booking system (Practice Better). Your booking is confirmed once you receive a confirmation email. It is your responsibility to ensure the information you provide at booking is accurate and up to date.
6. Programmes and Fees
We currently work with clients through structured programmes rather than single one-off sessions. Our current fees are:
Foundation Health Programme - £185
Complete Support Programme - £295
Blood Sugar Balance Plan - £345
Additional follow-up consultation (beyond those included in a plan) - £62
Foundation Health Programme includes: one 90-minute initial consultation, one 45-minute follow-up consultation, and email support between appointments. To be completed within 3 months of the initial consultation.
Complete Support Programme includes: everything in the Foundation Health Programme, plus one additional 45-minute follow-up consultation, personalised recipes and meal ideas, and priority support by email, WhatsApp and text message. To be completed within 6 months of the initial consultation.
Blood Sugar Balance Plan: a plan to balance blood sugar levels, suitable for Type 2 diabetics, pre-diabetics, or anyone struggling with low energy or energy slumps. Includes: everything in the Complete Support Programme, plus a third follow-up consultation, a bespoke evidence-based protocol to balance blood sugars long term, and ongoing adjustments to your plan. To be completed within 6 months of the initial consultation, in line with the Complete Support Programme, unless otherwise agreed with us in writing.
Appointments not used within the relevant timeframe may be forfeited unless otherwise agreed with us in writing. Additional follow-up consultations beyond those included in your programme can be booked at any time at the fee shown above.
Support between appointments is intended for brief questions relating to your programme and is not a substitute for a scheduled consultation. It should not be used for urgent medical concerns or emergencies. Messages are normally responded to during business hours (Mon-Fri, 9am to 5pm GMT).
Payments are processed securely through Stripe; we do not store your payment card details. We reserve the right to amend fees at any time — any change will not affect programmes already confirmed.
Where we recommend food supplements or functional testing as part of your programme, we may receive a commission from the supplier; this will never influence our recommendations, which are made solely in your best interests. You are under no obligation to purchase supplements or tests through us and are free to use a supplier of your choice. Where we sell supplements or tests directly, there may be a mark-up on wholesale prices to cover the cost of supply and interpretation.
7. Cancellations and Rescheduling
Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge provided at least 48 hours' notice is given. Appointments cancelled or missed with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full. If we need to cancel or rearrange an appointment, we will offer an alternative as soon as reasonably possible.
8. Refunds
Refunds may be requested at any point before your initial consultation has taken place. Once an initial consultation has been completed, refunds will not be provided for any unused part of a programme, save that we will consider exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. This does not affect your statutory rights under UK consumer law.
9. Your Responsibilities
-
Providing accurate and complete information about your health, medical history, medications, supplements and lifestyle, including during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you are planning either.
-
Informing us of any changes to your health, medication or treatment during the course of working together.
-
Completing any requested questionnaires, food diaries or health forms before appointments where possible.
-
Contacting your GP or other appropriate healthcare professional regarding any medical concerns, and informing them of any nutritional recommendations you are following, particularly if you are receiving medical treatment or taking prescribed medication.
-
Not altering or discontinuing any treatment prescribed by a licensed health professional without first consulting the person who prescribed it.
-
Following recommendations at your own discretion, and telling us if you do not understand or are uncomfortable with any part of your programme.
-
Recognising that recommendations are personal to you and should not be followed by anyone else, and contacting us before continuing any specified programme beyond the originally agreed period.
10. Confidentiality and Data Protection
Information you provide to us is handled in accordance with UK GDPR and our Privacy Policy, and is confidential unless disclosure is required by law. We will not share your information with third parties without your consent, save that where we believe there is a risk of significant harm to you or another person, information may be passed to an appropriate authority on the legal basis of vital interests.
Client records are retained securely for 7 years following your last consultation, in line with ANP/GNC and insurance requirements. Records relating to clients under 18 are retained until their 25th birthday (or 26th, if they were 17 at their last appointment).
With your separate, specific consent (set out in our GDPR Consent Form), anonymised case information may be used for case studies, professional development, or publication; your identity will never be included.
11. Recording of Consultations
To protect the privacy of both parties, consultations may not be recorded in any format without the prior agreement of both you and us.
12. Intellectual Property
All content we provide, including programmes, resources, recipes and website content, is the property of Peter Whittem Nutrition Ltd unless otherwise stated, and may not be copied, reproduced or distributed without our prior written permission.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Peter Whittem Nutrition Ltd accepts no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from your use of our website or nutritional therapy services, except where liability cannot legally be excluded. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot legally be excluded under UK law.
14. Complaints
If you wish to make a complaint, please contact us in the first instance using the details above. If your complaint remains unresolved, you may contact our professional association, the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP), or our regulating body, the General Naturopathic Council (GNC), for further guidance.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. The most recent version will always be provided to clients and published on our website.
16. Governing Law
